Al Green Releases First New Song In Ten Years For Amazon Music’s New “Produced By” Series

Amazon Music has launched their new “Produced By” series, which features Amazon Original tracks developed to spotlight “today’s community of producers working behind the scenes to develop the best in music.”

The new series pairs producers with a collection of today’s top genre-spanning artists to create exclusive recordings for Amazon Music listeners. Today, as part of the new series, Grammy Award-winning Memphis soul icon Al Green has released his first song in a decade. “Before The Next Teardrop Falls” was produced by the GRAMMY Award-winning, Memphis-based producer Matt Ross-Spang, who also produced “How Lucky” with John Prine and “Leftovers” by Margo Price–both of which released this week as part of the new series’ launch.

“As a lifelong Memphian, I’ve always been a massive fan of Al Green and his Producer Willie Mitchell,” explains Matt Ross-Spang in a press release. “Together they created some of the most enduring soul music. Sonically speaking, Willie and Al also really invented a distinct sound that separated them from STAX or Motown. Growing up in a such a rich musical heritage I became captivated by these records and long dreamed of working with Al Green. I’ve always loved the Linda Martell version of ‘Before the Next Teardrop Falls’ and kept it back pocket as a great cover idea for him. It follows in the footsteps of Willie and Al reinterpreting country songs like ‘For the Good Times’ and ‘Funny How Time Slips Away.’ I still can’t believe we actually got to do it!Amazon Music listeners can simply ask, “Alexa, play the playlist Produced by Matt Ross-Spang” in the Amazon Music app for iOS and Android and on Alexa-enabled devices.  In addition to the new track, Amazon Music listeners can access hundreds of Amazon Original songs and numerous albums featuring both emerging and established artists across numerous genres, available to stream and purchase on Amazon Music.
